Vince Stehle is the Recipient of Public Radio Capital’s Public Media Visionary Award
(Boulder, Colo.) Public Radio Capital (PRC) today announced that it has awarded Vince Stehle its first Public Media Visionary Award. The award was presented on May 3, 2010 at the PRC Board of Directors meeting in Philadelphia.
Reading from the award inscription, Susan Harmon, PRC’s co-managing director said: “This award is in recognition of Vince’s commitment to imagining what does not yet exist, to believing in what has yet to be seen, and to nurturing those projects and individuals who will affect the future of public media.”
Stehle currently serves as a consultant at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Previously, he was a program director for the Nonprofit Sector Support Program at the Surdna Foundation, a position he held for 11 years. Earlier, Stehle worked for 10 years as a reporter for the Chronicle of Philanthropy. From 2007 to 2009, he served as chair of the board of directors of Philanthropy New York, formerly called the New York Regional Association of Grantmakers. He is currently on the board of Grantmakers in Film and Electronic Media. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Stehle has also served on the board of directors for YouthNoise.org and VounteerMatch.
“Vince not only gave Public Radio Capital its start, but he has nurtured other new and bold public media enterprises. He combines an entrepreneurial spirit with a keen understanding of the media environment and its important role in American society,” said Marc Hand, co- managing director of PRC.
In receiving the award, Stehle said, “It has been an honor to be able to help Public Radio Capital establish itself as a pillar of support for public radio, preserving and expanding public radio’s vital news, information and cultural programming. In a time when other financial institutions have lost their integrity and credibility, Public Radio Capital has demonstrated that financial skills and strategies can be harnessed to enhance the quality of life in our communities.”
