Lakeshore Public Television acquires radio station in Northwest Indiana

Public Radio Capital represented Lakeshore Public Television in its acquisition of radio station WWLO 89.1 FM in Northwest Indiana. The seller was American Family Association, Inc., a religious broadcaster with headquarters in Tupelo, Mississippi. In January 2009, the Federal Communications Commission approved this $1 million transaction, which currently provides public radio coverage to more than 300,000 residents.

Lakeshore Public Television determined that the acquisition of a new media service would further the station’s efforts to serve as a media leader and unifying force for northwest Indiana. The new station, WLPR 89.1 FM, complements the public television station’s service to the region with in-depth local news, talk and sports programming—including live call-in programs and drive-time specials. A contemporary music sound rounds out this lineup.

At the time of the sale, Tom Carroll, Lakeshore Public Television president and CEO stated, “This station will be the voice of northwest Indiana. It will include varied and relevant content that is unlike any other product offered by other local radio stations in Northwest Indiana.”

Lakeshore Public Television's mission is to bring quality PBS television and original programming to viewers in the unique lakeshore region of Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland. We strive to be a notable alternative to commercial television stations by keeping our audience connected to programs that educate, enlighten, and inform.
